Terms of Service

Last updated: May 12, 2026

Acceptance of these Terms

By installing or using the Sheimos Scanner add-on ("the add-on") for Google Docs™, provided by Akiva Fleischmann ("we," "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use the add-on.

What the add-on does

Sheimos Scanner helps users avoid producing sheimos by detecting forms of Shem Hashem in a Google Docs document and replacing them with abbreviated alternatives. The add-on operates entirely inside the Google Docs document the user has open at the time it is invoked.

License to use

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the add-on for your own document editing, subject to these Terms. The add-on is provided free of charge.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the add-on only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with the Google Workspace Marketplace Terms of Service and the Google API Services User Data Policy. You agree not to:

Data and privacy

Your use of the add-on is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what Google user data the add-on accesses and how it handles that data. The add-on does not transmit, store, or share document content outside of the user's own Google session.

Religious context and limitations

Sheimos Scanner is a tool, not a halachic authority. The replacement patterns it applies reflect common conventions used to avoid writing Shem Hashem in full, but it is not a substitute for consulting a competent rabbinic authority on any specific question of halacha. Use of the add-on does not guarantee that a document is free of sheimos, nor does it constitute a halachic ruling. Users are responsible for reviewing the add-on's findings and replacements before acting on them, including making any further corrections that may be required for their specific use.

No warranty

The add-on is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the add-on will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will detect every occurrence of Shem Hashem in every document.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Akiva Fleischmann be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, religious or halachic harm, or business losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the add-on, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the add-on will not exceed ten US dollars (US $10).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Akiva Fleischmann from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the add-on or your breach of these Terms.

Changes to the add-on or these Terms

We may update, modify, or discontinue the add-on at any time. We may also update these Terms; the "Last updated" date above will be revised, and the new version will be published at this URL. Continued use of the add-on after a change to these Terms constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

Termination

You may stop using the add-on at any time by removing it from your Google account via Extensions → Add-ons → Manage add-ons in Google Docs, or by revoking its permissions from your Google Account. We may suspend or discontinue the add-on at any time.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the add-on will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
