Overview

Sheimos Scanner ("the add-on") is a Google Docs™ add-on created and operated by Akiva Fleischmann ("we," "us"). The add-on helps Jewish users avoid producing sheimos by detecting forms of Shem Hashem in a Google Docs document and replacing them with abbreviated alternatives. This policy describes how the add-on interacts with Google user data. The guiding principle of the add-on is simple: your data stays in your document, and nothing is collected, transmitted, stored, or shared.

Data Accessed

Sheimos Scanner requests the following Google OAuth scopes, which determine the Google user data it can access:

• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/documents.currentonly – access the text content of the single Google Docs document the user has open at the moment they invoke the add-on, in order to read it and apply text replacements. The add-on cannot access any other documents in the user's Drive, file metadata, file lists, or any document the user has not explicitly opened and run the add-on on.
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.container.ui.currentonly – display the sidebar user interface inside the current document so the user can review findings and trigger replacements.

These are the only scopes the add-on requests, and they are the minimum scopes required for the add-on to function. The add-on does not access the user's name, email address, profile, contacts, Drive file list, Gmail, Calendar, or any other Google service or data.

Data Usage

The text content of the current document is used solely to:

• Identify occurrences of Shem Hashem in Hebrew and English (with or without nikkud) using a fixed set of pattern rules.
• Display those occurrences, with limited surrounding context, in the add-on's sidebar so the user can review them.
• Replace those occurrences with abbreviated alternatives (for example, יהוה → ה׳, "God" → "G-d") inside the same document, only when the user explicitly clicks "Replace" or "Replace All."

All scanning, matching, and replacement logic runs inside Google's Apps Script runtime in the context of the user's own Google account. The add-on does not use document content for any other purpose, including analytics, advertising, machine learning, model training, or product improvement.

Data Sharing

Sheimos Scanner does not share Google user data with any third party. Specifically, the add-on:

• Does not transmit document content, or any data derived from it, to any server operated by us or by any third party.
• Has no backend server, database, or external API of its own.
• Does not contain any analytics, tracking, or advertising libraries.
• Does not sell, rent, license, or otherwise disclose Google user data.
• Does not transfer Google user data for human review except as described below.

The only entity that processes the user's document content is Google itself, as part of running the Apps Script add-on the user installed. Sheimos Scanner's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Data Storage & Protection

Sheimos Scanner does not store Google user data. Document content read by the add-on is held only in memory during the active Apps Script invocation needed to display findings or apply replacements, and is discarded when that invocation completes. The add-on does not write to Apps Script PropertiesService, CacheService, Drive, Cloud Storage, or any other persistence layer.

Because no data is collected or stored outside of the user's own Google Docs document, the protection of that data is governed by Google's own security controls for Google Docs and Google Apps Script, including encryption in transit and at rest as provided by Google. The add-on's source code is reviewed and limited to the minimum operations required to scan and replace text.

Data Retention & Deletion

Sheimos Scanner retains no Google user data. There is no account, profile, log, backup, or cached copy associated with the add-on. There is therefore nothing for the user to delete from our systems, because no data is ever transferred to or stored by us.

Users may at any time:

• Stop using the add-on by closing the sidebar or removing the add-on from their Google account via Extensions → Add-ons → Manage add-ons in Google Docs, or via Google Account → Security → Third-party apps with account access.
• Revoke the add-on's OAuth permissions from the same Google Account page.
• Contact us at the address below with any data-related questions or deletion inquiries. We will respond within 30 days, even though we hold no user data to delete.

Changes to this Policy

If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of the page will be revised and the new version will be published at this URL. Material changes will be reflected before any change in data practices takes effect.
